Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours of operation?

Our typical hours are Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm and select Fridays 8am-12pm. Depending on demand, patients may be seen as early as 7am.

What insurance do you accept?

All insurances are accepted by both Dr. Camplin and Dr. Brown. Dr. Brown is in network for: Aetna, Ameritas, Cigna, Principal, Metlife, Delta, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Humana.

Do you accept emergency appointments and can they be the same day?

Yes, we do our best to see emergencies same day and get the patient out of pain. If you are concerned with a tooth, it is best to call early in the morning so we can get you appointed as soon as possible.

What is included in my first, new patient appointment?

This appointment allows you to provide us with a history of your teeth and the dentist to discuss treatment options and recommendations. The appointment includes necessary x-rays and an assessment of your teeth and gums. It may include a cleaning depending on your oral health needs.

What type of x-rays may be needed?

The recommended x-rays will depend on the individual needs of the patient. If pertinent x-rays were taken at another office recently, they may be requested. Various types of x-rays allow the dentist to see all areas of the teeth and surrounding structures, from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional. All of our x-ray units are digital, reducing your radiation exposure to approximately equivalent of spending 20 minutes outside in the sun.

What are the differences between the types of fillings?

Tooth colored, or composite, are approved by the FDA and the American Dental Association. These fillings match the color of your teeth and are nearly impossible to distinguish from natural tooth structure. They are held into the tooth structure by bonding retention and may require less tooth structure to be removed during cavity preparation.

Silver, or amalgam, fillings are also approved by the FDA and the American Dental Association. These are held into the tooth by mechanical retention and may require slightly more tooth structure to be removed during cavity preparation. Amalgam fillings may be more cost effective in that most insurance companies reimburse at a slightly higher rate.

Every area that requires a filling is unique, making it best to discuss your options with your dental professional.

What types of sedation dentistry are offered in your office?

We provide access to two forms: a pill you take before your appointment and/or nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is inhaled throughout the appointment and relaxes the patient. After the appointment you can carry on with your day as usual.

The pill form of sedation is a heavy sleeping medication that allows the patient to be conscious, yet very sleepy throughout the appointment. It does, however, require more logistical planning. You will take one the night before your appointment to ensure you get a sufficient night’s sleep. Another dose will be taken just prior to the appointment. Because of this, it will be necessary for you to arrange a driver to and from our office.

If you prefer IV sedation, your procedures can be completed by Dr. Camplin or Dr. Brown at the Surgery Center.

What age should I bring my child in for an appointment?

Children should have their first dental visit when the first tooth is erupted. This allows the child to become acquainted with the office and staff over time, resulting in positive experiences. The dental providers will reviews techniques to ensure your child has optimal health.

What options are offered to straighten teeth?

Dr. Brown offers Invisalign, which is a clear tray alternative to traditional metal brackets. Invisalign is an option for most people. If you are not an Invisalign candidate, Dr. Brown can provide a referral to a local orthodontist.

How can I be a part of your whitening program?
